Monroe County Emergency Services (MCES) will have bottled water available from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. this evening (Thurs., Dec. 29) at the High Falls Fire Station at 3901 High Falls Road for North Monroe County residents affected by the ongoing county water shortage.
Monroe County has purchased 1,596 cases (38,304 bottles) of water through a Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) state contract to aid citizens during a difficult situation. The water will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis with one case available per family initially. Water distribution will then resume tomorrow morning (Fri., Dec. 30) at the same location from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
As of late yesterday evening, the North Monroe County Water System, which mainly services High Falls and Blount, is being provided water by the City of Forsyth using Monroe County Emergency Services fire hoses transferring water from a City of Forsyth hydrant to a North Monroe County Water System hydrant. Monroe County typically contracts with Butts County to provide water for the north water system.
Meanwhile, Monroe County remains under a Boil Water Advisory for all North Monroe County water system customers, which includes all areas around Johnstonville Road and to the north of Johnstonville Road (excluding the Riata, River Forest, and River Walk subdivisions).
